Hi Hannah and Matthew,
Look where Dianne and I have gone this time, this is called Owen Springs, it took us about an hour to get there and there are lots of trees and dirt roads along the way. The car we took this time is called a four wheel drive, just like your daddy's car. We need a four wheel drive to get over some of the creeks and hills. See on the sign below, it says 4WD ONLY ...
Dianne and I sure don't want to get stuck way out here because there are no phones and it is very hot. Just to be safe we took a special type of telephone, it is called a Satellite Phone and I am told it can be used anywhere in the world as long as you are outside in the open.
When Dianne was driving we ended up going through a creek just before Owen Springs Homestead, and the water was all around, I didn't think there would be any crocodiles in this small pond but I got out and walked along the edge ... Just in case!
This place was very interesting, we saw the old fire place and there were lots of old metal things lying all around like horse shoes and bolts and things. There was a very long river running along behind these old buildings so we went down to paddle in the water... There was no water so I took a picture of Dianne sitting on a log in the river bed.
When there is water in this river it is very deep because we could see debris stuck way up the trunks of trees. We even saw a huge water tank that was washed away in a flood. The metal is very thick and I estimated there were several thousand bolts and nuts holding it together ... it must have cost a lot of money to build and I think it would have held about eighty thousand litres, that's a lot of water.
Guess what we had for lunch, Dianne went to a HOT BREAD shop and got a fresh loaf of un-sliced bread and we put our hands in the end of the bread and grabbed a hand full of the soft inside. We put Vegemite on it and ate it all up, it was very yummy yummy. I wish you could have been here it would have been more fun.
Well I hope you enjoyed our trip ... See you later.
Lots of hugs and kisses from Dianne and Granddad OXOXOXOXOXOXOXO
