Sunday 6th November 2005

My brother Alan invited me to go with him to a place called Yuendumu to deliver a vehicle that was rolled over and to pick up a tractor part to take back to Alice.  We would tow the vehicle with Alan's Toyota diesel and car trailer.  When I mentioned where I was going to the boys at work .. they laughed.

Anyway we left at 7:00am this morning and I took the camera not knowing what too expect.  The day was shaping up for questionable weather, likely rain.  The trip was over 300km or a country mile, about 2 thirds of the trip was on reasonable roads and there was only one place to stop along the way where we could have breakfast.

I wish I could remember the name of this place (I will ask Alan later).  Anyway we had a very nice breakfast and continued on our way after changing a tyre on the trailer (The tread was coming off the tyre).  There wasn't much to see but the outback is great to look at wherever you are, especially where there is no civilisation.

The dirt roads were very bad although Alan said they were pretty good, I guess he has seen worse.  We finally arrived at Yuendumu, I know why the boys were laughing, so I took a few shots below just so you could see why.  This place is a mess and the locals should be ashamed for having no pride in their community.  I guess this is one of those places tourists don't get to see.

On the way home after we picked up the tractor part and had lunch at the same place we had breakfast, I commented to Alan that I could feel his trailer swaying slightly.  Alan said it was unusual but dismissed it as crosswinds.  I think we must have blown a tyre about then and I recon we did around a hundred Ks until the rim made enough noise for Alan to wind down his window to hear it.  Just after we pulled over when we were almost home, a friend of Alan's pulled in beside us, he said he saw the rim hitting the road way before we knew about it.

Well this day is almost over, we drifted in at around 3:00pm, I enjoyed the day and look forward to any other adventures.
