Well ....
Why did I make you press a LINK?
Pictures cause you to wait while they load, so if I place them on multiple pages, each page will load quicker.
Anyway ... back to the trip! I was driving along and saw this sign, so I decided I would go back to Alice after I saw Ellery Creek.
This looks a bit like Simpsons Gap from this distance!
When I got nearer I realized this was definitely not like Simpsons Gap, there was plenty of water and people were swimming around everywhere. I looked for signs indicating crocodiles or alligators might live here, but there was only a warning that you could hurt yourself if diving etc.
I wonder if the girl in her very white bikini was expecting her togs to stay white, have a look at the colour of the water, it is much worse than the Brisbane river. I wasn't tempted to go in but this place was definitely worth the 88klm visit. It would have been a nice place to spend the day camping if you could put up with the flies. Lots of people wear hats with mosquito nets to their shoulders. At first I thought this was how you could pick a tourist .... you know! Just like the hats with corks hanging from the rim. Now I actually think they must be the locals and I am the tourist, I might consider one .....
On my way back to Alice I kept noticing clumps of grass and wondered how they could be so green out here in this harsh territory.
I pulled over and walked across a field of these clumps not realising they were actually some kind of cactus until I kicked a few with my thonged feet. The pain went away after just a few days!
This was a very hot walk, I left the car running so the air conditioner would keep it cool while I was away. When I stepped on the cactuses I realized if someone pulled over to take my car, I wouldn't be able to run fast enough to stop them ... too many obstacles!
My next trip will be better organised and I will remember more details by writing them down. One of the problems is, if you stop anywhere that is not shady, you simply fry. Finding somewhere shady is ...... well there is nowhere shady!
Hope you enjoyed my trip ..
